Hello donut lovers!!
Thank you for your interest in Craving Donuts! I created this page to provide a little more information about this site and also what you can expect to find here (hint: a lot of donuts…).
Craving Donuts was born from an incurable love and constant craving for what, in my humble opinion, is one of life’s greatest pleasures. Hi! I’m Lexi, the girl with the donut cravings and a million donut creations floating through her head.
About a year or so ago I took notice of my growing love for donuts eventually began to feel really drawn to this area of baking. Seriously, I love them! I could eat donuts all day every day. My first thought was to try my hand at selling donuts locally – setting up at farmers markets and that sort of thing – but my kitchen is waay too tiny to make that many donuts and keep them fresh. So while I might be open to private orders from my Dallas/Fort Worth donut lovers, ultimately I decided the best way to satisfy this increasing desire to immerse myself in a world of donuts was…to start a blog.
But why another food blog??
I know, I know, it seems like there are already literally millions of blogs devoted to food in one way or another, so why add to the chaos?
Well… as an introvert deluxe, being behind a screen is much preferable than behind a food stand! I kid, I kid…OK, not really but seriously, though this blog is a bit different than the norm in that it is primarily focused on one food group. It is also an opportunity to hone my donut-making skills and to become an expert, so to speak, in one field – which is a bit more appealing to my personality than trying to be a jack-of-all-trades (← recipes?) blogger. (I’ve been there and been burned – not going back!)
I also like the fact that I can offer so many flavor variations and fun twists; if I operated as a bakery alone, I probably could not incorporate so many flavors. And flavors and fun twists are where I get really excited! You wouldn’t believe all the ideas I have stowed away – and the list keeps growing! I have been so amazed at all the many possibilities. So if you’re wondering how much can be done with a donut… just watch!
Finally, and probably most importantly, starting a blog is a way for me to share my donut ♥ with a broader, worldwide audience instead of just a small corner of the planet (and I’m ALL about sharing the donut ♥♥!).
So all I’m going to get on here is donuts, donuts, and more donuts?
Well, yes and no.
First of all, I would imagine that if you find yourself on this site that you might perhaps be craving some donuts yourself?
Donuts will be my primary focus area, yes, but there will probably also be times when I take a break and post about a delicious cake or the most addicting cookies – you get the point.
Also, not everything baked in a donut pan has to be a donut in the original sense, amiright? *she smiles mysteriously* In addition to my growing list of flavors, are ideas for other ways to put the donut pan to use and I can’t wait to start experimenting!
Fried or Baked?
95-98% of the donut recipes on here will be baked.
To be quite honest, this is for no other reason than for the fact that I’m lazy and donut-frying is not my favorite activity, and as such one I like to save for special occasions. And yes, I know that a true donut lover most craves the fried donuts we’re all used to – but I do love a good baked donut as well! I also try to keep my recipes as user-friendly as possible and imagine I might not be alone in my lack of zeal for standing over a pot of oil??
As someone who also appreciates a good challenge, I am eager to see what results I can get with the oven!
Final Question: Any Special-Diet-Friendly Recipes?
Being a person with some dietary restrictions herself, you can bet recipes using alternative ingredients will make an appearance from time to time – so keep an eye out for these!
JK on the final question bit…THIS is the final question: DONUTS or DOUGHNUTS?
Er, in all honesty, DOUGHNUTS. But when I was trying to decide on the spelling I wanted to go with for the blog, it seemed that donuts is the slightly more popular version. So I put away my preferences for doughnuts and am pleased to offer you donuts! (But really, it’s all the same thing, right??)
If I still have your attention, thanks for sticking around! I hope this Q&A of mine was able to answer any questions you might have. However, if you still…
